Council maintained walkways, mountain-biking and fitness trails.
We also have other popular walking tracks and cycling trails.
Whataupoko Reserve
The reserve was developed in 2001 after Council purchased the land in 1992. The reserve was then planted in exotic trees which are now well established. The mountain bike trails were developed in 2003 by a group of volunteers, there's 7 kilometres of trails.
Cyclists ride at your own risk, please wear suitable protection.
Please stay on the tracks.
Most people walk or run the trails.

Titirangi Domain - Kaiti Hill
Titirangi Domain (Kaiti Hill) provides great views of Gisborne city and the bay towards Mahia.
There's bush walk tracks amongst native trees. There's a very popular fitness trail with lots of steps to run up and down.
Tupapa heritage trail
A self-guided walk that tours 10 markers. The trail connects sites from Waikanae Beach to Cook Landing Site and Titirangi maunga.

Other walkways and cycleways
Wainui cycleway connects to the city riverbank walkway, and the Oneroa pathway along Waikanae Beach to Midway surf club.
- Turanga gardens walking tracks on Hospital Hill, Valley Road.
- Waiherere Domain, Back Ormond Road. Native bush walk leading to Waihirere waterfall.
- Makorori headland walk.
- Eastwoodhill Arboretum walking tracks
Motu trails cycleway
The Motu Trails cycle trails between Matawai via the Old Coach Road through to Tirohanga dunes - 78km track, or the Pakihi Track takes a more direct route through a spectacular gorge - 44km.
Rere Falls trail cycleway
The Rere Falls trail is 103km, you can ride in either direction.
For best views and a more downhill ride, start from Matawai to Gisborne - highlights along the way include Rere Rockslide, Rere Falls, Eastwoodhill Arboretum down through the Poverty Bay Flats to our city beaches.
