Under Section 37 of the Dog Control Act 1996, the Gisborne District Council set the dog control fees that apply from 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2025.
All dogs in the Gisborne District must be registered from 3 months of age.
Owners are required to register their dogs by 31 July each year. A 25% penalty for late payment applies to all dogs registered after 1 August 2024.

All dogs, except working dogs, are required to be microchipped within 2 months of registration.
De-sexing discount – with proof from a licensed veterinarian, a 10% discount may be applied to registration of all qualifying dogs paid by 31 July.
