Whataupoko Reserve track upgrade
Work is underway to complete the upgrade to mountain bike trails at Whataupoko Reserve.
Council has been working with the Gisborne Mountain Bike Club on the project to create new mountain biking trails and upgraded walking and dual use trails.
The club has received funding from Trust Tairāwhiti, New Zealand Community Trust and local businesses to complete the project.
This work was consented as a permitted activity and is consistent with the land purpose and zoning in the district plan.
Specialist contractors Southstar Trails commenced trail construction this week and the work will take approximately three to four months to complete.
The hours of work will be between 7.30am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.
The park will remain open while work is completed, with only trails under construction or being upgraded closed. There should be little disruption to park users during this period.
Warning signs will be installed at the two main entry points on Fox Street and Hauroa Road advising of the upgrades taking place.
We ask all users to respect the warning signs and keep off the trails while under construction, until they are open to ride or walk.
