A permit and fee is required before you set up camp. Where to buy a permit

No freedom camping at any time.

About Waihau Beach

Waihau Beach also known as Loisels, is approximately 42km from Gisborne city. 

The camping area is 6km from the state highway turn-off, at the northern end of the bay at the end of Waihau Road.

Excellent surfing, fishing, diving and swimming.

Rubbish collection Rubbish collection point signs

Rubbish bags are provided with your permit. We encourage you to recycle, take it to the nearest recycling centre.

Do not leave rubbish bags on the roadside. Take rubbish bags to the signposted 'Collection Point' at the sign, on Mondays and Fridays. Also Wednesdays during the peak Christmas/New Year period. Rubbish is collected in the mornings.
