Tupapa opening ceremony
Tupapa - Our Stand. Our Story
|Description:||You're invited Saturday 1pm|
|Closing Date:||13 April 2019 at 3:30pm|
You're invited to attend the opening of the historical interpretation experience ‘Tupapa – Our stand. Our story’ with iwi and our community tomorrow Saturday 13 April at 1pm.
Tupapa is the culmination of work by Turangaui iwi, Ngati Oneone, Te Aitanga a Mahaki, Rongowhakaata and Ngai Tamanuhiri to share their traditional stories of voyaging and arrival in the place where iwi connect through shared history and ancestry.
We invite our community to join in the blessing of Tupapa and experience the trail and korero of tangata whenua.
The blessing will begin 1pm at the Turanganui River viewshaft, at the Turanganui River mouth at end of Customhouse Street.
There'll be a walking tour and blessing for each of the 10 pou (trail markers) located along the river from Waikanae Stream around to the inner harbour, the Cook Landing Site and up to Cook Plaza on Titirangi.
The ceremony will conclude with a karakia at the Titirangi viewshaft on the summit at 3.15pm.
The walk is approximately 4km and we encourage those who can to make the journey on foot, but we understand people may require transport between some markers. We advise people to share vehicles where ever possible and use parking at The Cut, Reads Quay, The Esplanade and the summit car park on Titirangi.
You can also use the Tupapa app in Te Reo or English along the trail to view the map, videos and graphic novels. We recommend downloading the app for iOS or Android before arriving or checking out the website for more stories and resources at www.tupapa.nz.(external link)
