Trail upgrades at Whataupoko Reserve

Family Mountain biking whataupoko sport

Work will begin next week to upgrade the mountain bike trails at Whataupoko Reserve.

The project will create new mountain biking trails and upgrade walking and dual use trails, to benefit the whole community.

Council has been working with the Gisborne Mountain Bike Club on the planned redevelopment to enhance these trails. The club has received funding from Eastland Community Trust and New Zealand Community Trust to complete this project.

Specialist contractors Southstar Trails will be commencing the trail construction upgrades next week, and will take approximately three to four months to complete.

The hours of work will be between 8am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Construction machinery including diggers, compactors, chainsaws and trail builders will be used throughout the project.

The park will remain open during this project, with only the trails under construction or being upgraded closed. There should be little disruption to park users during this period.

Warning signs will be installed at the two main entry points on Fox Street and Hauroa Road advising of the upgrades taking place.

We ask all users to respect all warning signs and keep off the trails under construction.
