Stream bank collapse causes wastewater discharge
A stream bank has collapsed on private property on Marion Drive overnight, and has fractured a small part of our wastewater pipe.
The bank has slumped near a manhole which is under threat of collapse.
A small flow of wastewater is currently going into the stream and into the Waimata River.
Staff and contractors are on site assessing it and will start the repair by digging it out by hand with the help of a small digger.
No other properties are affected in the area.
We advise people to avoid contact with the water. Warning signs are in place on the riverbank and we have advised water recreation users.
Tuesday 25 June 4.30pm - the small discharge has ceased. The contractors have repaired the fractured pipe. Staff and contractors will continue to work on the bank collapse and make a permanent repair.
