Sport NZ Rural Travel Fund
Council is calling for applications from schools and clubs requiring financial help with transport costs to assist young people aged between 5 and 19 years of age to participate in local winter sports.
To be eligible, applicants must be from a rural area and costs are applied to travel for sports competitions outside of school hours.
Tolaga Bay Area School executive officer Susie Te Rure-Puha says support from the fund over the years has enabled access for their players to compete in Gisborne. The school has produced three National ISA Softball players and two of these players are scheduled to go to Prague in September for the Worlds U17 Girls Tournament.
“All three of these players started playing here at Tolaga Bay Area School. We also have had many regional representatives in U13, U15 Boys and Girls Tairawhiti team from our school. We thank GDC for supporting our school to continue to invest in this sport to give our students wider opportunities.”
Application forms are available from www.gdc.govt.nz/sport-nz-rural-travel-fund(external link), you can email Funding@gdc.govt.nz or pick up from Council offices.
The closing date for applications is Friday 10 July at 5pm.
