Phoenix palms to be removed
The 3 phoenix palms on along Crawford Road next to the Works restaurant are to be removed today as part of the Inner Harbour upgrade project.
The palm trees have been causing concerns for local food premises for some time.
Mayor Meng Foon said “we’ve received a lot of complaints about pests and hazardous branches from these trees from businesses nearby.”
Removal of the trees will make space for future parking and a walkway connection to Titirangi (Kaiti Hill), with plans to replace current trees with natives throughout the Inner harbour precinct.
Traffic management will be in place while contractors are removing the trees, so please be patient if you are travelling in the area of the inner harbour.
If the weather stays fine, removal work will be completed today.
