Emergency works
The Provincial Growth Fund is investing in urgent road repairs caused by flooding, rising sea levels and unstable soil types. The repair of these hazardous sites ensures the safety of road users and the continued economic growth of our Tairawhiti region.
Flood repairs
The 2018 Queen's Birthday weekend flood caused significant damage to the road network. The total cost of the recovery project is $26m, co-funded by the NZ Land Transport Safety Fund and the Provincial Growth Fund.
From over 1000 repair sites, approximately 180 sites remain for repair (May 2020)

Kaiinanga Hill
Flood resilience works on Waiomatatini Road near Kaiinanga Hill where the Waiapu River has caused erosion near the road reserve.

East Cape Road
This project involves emergency repair works to improve the safety of East Cape Road and protect against rising sea levels.
Rock revetments will be built at multiple locations between Te Araroa township and the 5km mark, as well as localised sealing works.
