Only flush the 3 P's
Our Drainwise team has launched the first video in an ongoing public awareness campaign, designed to educate people about what can and can’t be flushed down the toilet.
The key message is: ‘Only flush the 3 P’s – Pee, Poo and Paper.’ Anything that isn’t pee, poo or toilet paper does not readily breakdown after flushing and causes blockages in our sewer pipes. Blocked pipes cause sewer back-ups on private properties or overflow into our city rivers. This is a huge health risk for our community and the environment.
Featuring our awesome contractor Nick, the video has already been viewed over 17,000 times on social media. You can see the full clip here
‘Only flush the 3 P’s’ is the first of five key messages we will be sharing over the next few weeks, each with tips about what we can all do at home to help reduce wastewater flows.
List of non-flushable items that belong in the bin, not the toilet:
- Hair, nappies, condoms, food waste, tooth floss, cigarette butts, towels and flannels, tampons and pads, underwear or clothes, cotton balls and swabs, medication and plasters.
- Any kind of wet wipe including those that claim to be “flushable.”
