Oneroa walkway wins another award
We can celebrate another accolade for Gisborne, as the Oneroa cycle and walkway has taken a merit award for Outstanding Project at the New Zealand Recreation Association (NZRA) conference in Queenstown last month.
The conference is attended by city and regional councils and recreational facility builders from all over the country.
Mayor Meng Foon says, “It’s great to be recognised at such a high level, Our staff worked incredibly hard with a lot of stakeholders to get it right”
“It’s one of our most well visited and well-loved features in Gisborne, and has really show-cased the potential of cycle and walkways” he said.
Since receiving the award, Oneroa cycle and walkway project manager, Kylie Dowding has been asked to be on the panel for a NZRA webinar on community engagement.
The award winning participants will use their projects as case studies to help develop better community engagement processes across the industry.
The Oneroa cycle and walkway has recently opened the extension along Beacon Street, which connects it to Alfred Cox Park cycle and walkway.
“With the increase in visitors to our region, and plans to build on this growth, it’s really promising having facilities that are nationally recognised for people to create new memories on.” said Mayor Foon.
