Minor sewer spill in Waimata River

Minor sewer spill in Waimata River

A  minor discharge into the Waimata River occurred this afternoon, as the result of a sewer blockage on private property which surcharged the street sewer in Cheeseman Rd.

An unknown quantity of sewage has entered the creek by Lovers Lane (between the Esplanade and Cheeseman Rd).  The footbridge between these 2 streets is closed until contractors have finished cleaning the spill and have assisted the drainlayer to fix the problem as quickly as possible.

We will not be placing signs along the rivers and beachfront due to the minor amount discharged.

Thursday 2.55pm

The minor discharge has now been resolved. Contractors have been working onsite to fix the issue and the footbridge between the Esplanade and Cheeseman Road has been cleaned and reopened.
