Mangaheia Bridge repairs progressing well
Repairs to Mangaheia Bridge no.1 on Tauwhareparae Road are progressing well and contractors are confident of having the bridge reopened to heavy vehicles on Wednesday 29 April.
Testing of the strength of the concrete repairs will take place on Tuesday and the bridge will be reopened immediately to all traffic once approval is given by structural engineers.
Council contractors will work on the repairs throughout the long weekend. Security guards have been placed at the bridge 24 hours per day to ensure the safety of all road users and that no heavy vehicles cross the bridge during the critical concrete curing process.
A final update confirming the reopening will be sent out after testing is completed.
The bridge is currently open to utes and light vehicles up to five tonnes.
