Homeguard track open
The new Home Guard track on Titirangi Kaiti Hill is now open and ready for the community to enjoy.
A blessing was held by Ngati Oneone with the Mayor, councillors, staff and contractors.
The name Home Guard honours a World War 2 armed service based on Titirangi to keep watch from the threat posed by Japan forces.
People can enter the track near bottom of the maunga (hill) just around the corner from the Toko Toru Tapu Church. It continues up a ridge on the side of the maunga towards the summit, and exits to the road beside the communications tower.
The track was designed by Land Development and Exploration (LDE) and constructed by Siteworx as part of the wider Titirangi Maunga Restoration project.
Mayor Meng Foon thanked all those involved and acknowledged the partnership between Council and iwi to continue to enhance the reserve for the benefit of the community.
