Flood recovery - Major routes to reopen tomorrow
Council aims to have all major forestry and farming roads reopened to heavy vehicles by the end of the day tomorrow (Friday 24 July).
Most key routes are currently either closed or limited to four wheel drive access as the clean-up continues from the recent weather event.
Journeys operations manager Donna McArthur is appealing for caution to be taken as roads reopen.
“We understand that there are residents waiting to get back home, forestry crews on stand-by and stock waiting to be transported.
“Even though these roads will be open, extreme caution is still advised. Some roads will be one-way only with a lot of work still happening.
“The safety of everyone involved is our main priority. I’d like to thank the community for their cooperation and acknowledge the ongoing efforts by Downer NZ and all contractors involved.
“In times like these, there’s always an amazing sense of community in Tairāwhiti and it’s really helped the recovery efforts.”
