Edge marker posts on rural roads
Tairawhiti Roads contractors will install 8000 edge marker posts on approximately 250 kilometres of rural roads to improve road user safety.
Edge marker posts – the short white flexible posts with reflectors on top – have been shown to reduce accidents by up to 18 percent, particularly at night time.
Night time vehicle crashes can result in injuries or loss of life, particularly in high speed rural areas. Reducing night time crashes remains a focus for Tairawhiti Roads.
The installation of the markers will be carried out throughout May and June.
Property owners are asked to be careful not to damage the posts installed on verges.
