Dog control policy and practices

Each year we report on the administration of the dog control policy and practices and provide dog control statistics.

2019-20 dog control policy and practices

Between 1 July 2019 to 30 June 2020, Council had four full-time and one part-time Gisborne-based Animal Control Officers. The Council’s Te Puia Springs office had two full-time Animal Control Officers. The Animal Control Officers are responsible for a land area of 8,360 square kilometres.

There are 11,397 registered dogs currently owned in our district by 6,157 dog owners.
