The programme brings together a number of strategies, projects and initiatives across Council and Tairawhiti Roads with a focus on cycling safety.
Wainui stage 2 link, planning for the Rutene Road cycleway and Gladstone Road Bridge widening have been fully funded by government and NZTA.
Wainui Stage 2 link - the new path from Sponge Bay towards the CBD past Kaiti School and across the road to Craig Road is now fully open.
Rutene Road cycleway - the new Rutene Road cycleway as currently proposed will be a 2-way (bi-directional) separated, on-road cycleway, running from Wainui Road along Rutene and Ormond roads to the Ormond/Fitzherbert roundabout.
The approx $2.5m funding for this project comes from the Urban Cycleways Fund ($400k), National Land Transport Fund ($1.3M) and Council ($777k) and includes changes to the William Pettie Bridge.
