CE's statement on review board decision
The following statement is from Nedine Thatcher Swann, Chief Executive of Gisborne District Council.
The Code of Conduct Review Board has provided a media release following their report to the Council yesterday in public excluded business.
The Review Board has found the 2 councillors involved have breached different provisions of the code of conduct.
The matters were resolved informally with the councillors.
While this is a governance matter, we understand the public needs to have confidence in the organisational culture of Council.
I can wholeheartedly assure the community the matters related to the inquiry are in no way a reflection of the views within our organisation.
We’re disappointed to be in this position.
The conduct of councillors and any subsequent reviews of their conduct are governance matters, not staff.
Council staff were not involved in the process conducted by the Conduct Review Board.
As Council staff we accept that the Conduct Review Board followed a thorough and professional process.
We understand this may not be the outcome some in the community had hoped for.
We also appreciate the public would like the councillor alleged to have made the comments to be named.
The Review Board have not released a name due to legal ramifications.
