Bright Street upgrade for Queens Birthday

The road surface on Bright Street will be upgraded between Palmerston Road and Gladstone Road on Monday, 3 June.

Drivers should take alternative routes during this upgrade, as Bright Street will be under stop/go traffic management and down to one lane only.

The work is expected to take one day, and has been scheduled for a public holiday to minimise disruption to the public. Pedestrian access to footpaths will remain open.

Tairāwhiti Roads has worked with stakeholders to understand the impacts to their businesses. The lower section of Bright Street near the Palmerston Road roundabout will be reinstated at 10am to allow vehicle access to the McDonalds drive-through.

Emergency New Zealand and St John have also been fully consulted.

HB Williams Memorial Library will be closed, and after-hours book returns will be possible through the normal slot. Those who choose to return their books on Monday can park or walk from either Gladstone Road, Palmerston Road or Peel Street, with walkthrough access also at Treble Court.
